Vanilla Sky is basically faithful to the plot of the excellent "Abre los
ojos" (Open Your Eyes), of which it is a remake. They didn't mess up the
structure. Give them credit for that.
Unfortunately, the movie has maybe a third of the emotional impact of
"Open Your Eyes". The sharp-edged main characters are blunted, direct
lines have been traded for clever-scriptwriter witticisms, and key scenes
have been softened and simplified. My advice, if you can tolerate
subtitles, is to watch the Spanish original on DVD, rather than Vanilla
Sky in the theatres.
